Mumbai Builder and Son Arrested for Multi-Crore Housing Scam The Accused: The Kasturba Marg Police have arrested Ashok Jethwa (55) and his son Mihir Jethwa (35), who had been on the run for years. The Arrest: A special team from Zone 12 police traced the duo to a hotel in Ernakulam, Kerala, where they were detained on Sunday night and subsequently brought to Mumbai. The Scam: The father-son duo allegedly cheated dozens of homebuyers and investors out of crores of rupees. Their modus operandi involved posing as reputable developers, presenting fake permissions and fabricated documents, and promising timely possession of flats which were never delivered. Modus Operandi: They collected large sums from buyers for projects that were abandoned midway. To evade law enforcement, they used fake Aadhaar cards and traveled under false identities across different states. Scale of Fraud: Kasturba Marg Police Station: At least six cases are registered here alone, with individual FIRs citing amounts such as ₹13.52 crore (under the MPID Act), ₹1.74 crore, and ₹1.51 crore, among others. Other Stations: Additional cases are registered at Borivali and MHB police stations. Victim Account: One victim, a businessman from Khar West, paid approximately ₹1.74 crore between 2016 and 2018 for three flats in a Borivali East project.
